Participants needed for new study

Researchers at the University of Wollongong and IHMRI are seeking participants to take part in a study investigating a potential treatment which may help improve brain structure and function, psychological wellbeing and quality of life in people living with early-stage dementia.

Participants needed include:

  • People aged 55 to 80 years recently diagnosed (in the last two years) with early-stage dementia;
  • People who live at home, who have someone to support them throughout the duration of the study (e.g. family member, caregiver).

What does participation involve?

  • We will screen interested individuals with a face-to-face interview to determine their suitability to participate, in consultation with their doctor.
  • Eligible and willing participants will be required to take a capsule of either the trial drug or a placebo each morning and evening for 12 weeks.
  • Participants and their supporting person will be asked to complete three separate testing sessions at the beginning (across two days, 4 hours), middle
    (1 hour) and end (across two days, 4 hours) of the 12 weeks.
  • These sessions will include interviews about your health and wellbeing, taking body measurements, providing blood samples, answering questionnaires and having a total of two MRI scans.
  • Participants and their supporting person will also be asked to take part in weekly home visits to monitor ongoing wellbeing.
